Exceptional in its craftwork, Nouvelle Vague is a console table that rejects traditional conventions in favor of experimentation. Round ceramic handmade pieces, painted in a unique crackle glaze are placed around a lacquered center top, creating a sense of movement that evokes the motion of the waves.

1. What is the "Mar di Giava" material used in the base?
The base is constructed from handcrafted ceramic tiles finished in a unique craquelé glaze. Because they are hand-painted, you will see subtle variations in the glaze that prove the artisanal nature of the piece.
2. How fragile are the ceramic tiles in a high-traffic entryway?
While the ceramic structure is incredibly durable and designed for daily life, the craquelé glaze is a decorative artisanal finish. The table is solid and heavy, so it won’t wobble or tip if someone brushes against it, but we recommend avoiding direct impact from heavy metal objects (like large moving boxes) to preserve the integrity of the hand-painted ceramic.
3. Can I customize the color of the tiles and the wood top together?
Yes. The Nouvelle Vague is one of our most customizable pieces. You can mix and match various lacquer colors for the top with different Mar di Giava tile shades for the base. This allows you to create either a monochrome sculptural look or a high-contrast "pop" piece that fits your specific color palette.
4. Is the lacquered top scratch-resistant for daily items like keys?
Our high-gloss lacquer is multi-layered and durable, but it is not "scratch-proof." Like any fine automotive or furniture finish, sliding metal objects (like house keys or heavy mail) can cause micro-scratches over time. We highly recommend using a felt-bottomed tray or a decorative bowl for "drop zone" items to protect the high-gloss surface.
5. Can this table be used on thick carpeting, or does it require a hard floor?
Due to the concentrated weight of the two ceramic pedestals, the Nouvelle Vague performs best on hard surfaces (stone, wood, tile). If placed on a high-pile rug or thick carpet, the pedestals may "settle" unevenly over time. For the most stable and level surface—especially if you are placing breakable art on top—we recommend a hard floor or a low-pile, firm area rug.
6. How do I clean the craquelé glaze without damaging it?
To maintain the unique texture of the handmade tiles, simply use a soft, dry microfiber cloth for dusting. For the lacquered top, a slightly damp cloth is all you need. Avoid using any "all-purpose" chemical cleaners or abrasive sponges, as they can get into the fine cracks of the craquelé glaze and dull the finish over time.
